Connection & Connection-less Services

• Datagram NETWORK는 Connection-less Service를 제공함.
• Virtual Circuit NETWORK는 리소스를 예약하는 등 Connection Service를 제공함.
• TCP/UDP 연결과 같이 connection-oriented / connection-less transport-layer service를 제공하는 특징이 유사함.
• 하지만, 다음과 같은 차이점이 존재함.
  • host to host Service
  • no choice
  • implemented in network core

Datagram Networks

• Network Layer에서 Call Setup이 없음.
• Router는 end-to-end 연결에 대한 정보(상태)가 없음
• destination host의 address를 사용함으로써 packets은 forward됨.

Longest Prefix Matching이란,

주어진 destination address에 대한 forward table 항목을 찾을 때, destination address와 일치하는 longest prefix(가장 긴 주소)를 사용하는 것임.
